Dr. Richard Mooney

Richard C. Mooney, MD has been a physician with Rio Pecos Medical Associates since 1985. He is the Senior Partner of the group and presently serves as President of the Corporation.

Dr. Mooney was born a few miles from the Gulf of Mexico in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After graduating Valedictorian of his high school class, he entered college on an academic scholarship and achieved his Bachelor of Science degree. He graduated from the LSU School of Medicine in 1977 and entered the LSU Medical Center OB-GYN Residency program in 1981. He completed the four year specialty training program in 1985 as the Most Outstanding OB-GYN Resident before he and his family moved to Roswell.

Dr. Mooney and his wife, Elizabeth, were married for 33 years before she passed away in March of 2011 from Multiple Sclerosis. He remembers her as the one person having the most significant influence on his life. They had two children together.

He is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, certified by the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy, a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, a certified Bone Densitometrist, a previous hospital Chief of Staff, present Chairman of the OB Department, a Roswell Regional Hospital Owner and Board Member, and a Fellow in the American College of OB-GYN.

Dr. Mooney enjoys jogging and has run 20 marathons. He bicycles endurance races and loves his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. His favorite getaway is to the mountains. He is smitten with his one grandson. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Roswell.

Having stopped delivering babies in August of 2010, Dr. Mooney is a full-time Gynecologist with a special interest in urogynecology, pelvic organ prolapse, and advanced laparoscopy ("band aid surgery"). He loves being in Roswell and loves being a part of Rio Pecos Medical Associates. He is thankful to his Rio Pecos colleagues for their support and to the patients of Southeastern New Mexico for their loyalty.
